In order towards ensuring food security in Nigeria, USAID and Africa Lead in collaboration with African Harvesters & Leap Africa is boosting Agribusiness Entrepreneurship capacity development for the youths.

 

The organisations during a 5-day event tagged; USAID Africa Lead Entrepreneurship and Agribusiness Development BootCamp held in Lagos recently said it became necessary to help the youths who are dedicated to starting up agribusiness.

 

Speaking at the event, the Training and Non State Actors Manager, Mr. Cecilia Addae noted that the programme is aimed towards expanding agribusiness and developing the nation's agricultural sector

She added that it is a way to also foster broader economic development and agricultural transformation.

 

Addae said the youths who are between the ages of 18-35 showed they have innovative agribusiness start up idea and entrepreneurship passion.

She further described other criteria they have as; being a farmer or agri-preneur engaged in some activities along value chain, strong desire to increase skill and knowledge planning and actively managing a start-up and expansion in agribusiness.

 

"Africa Lead is building on its existing leadership training programme and envisions working with youth, women and entrepreneurs to start up and expand agribusiness along profitable value chains, "she said.

 

African Harvesters (one of the workshop Nigerian Partner), was represented by her co-founder Serah Odende. She advised the youths to replicate the modules taught during into their agribusiness start-ups and challenged them to look into ending food insecurity in Nigeria.

 

Meanwhile, the Class Captain, Mr. Suleiman Salisu in his speech said him and other participants were happy with the initiatives and thanked the organisers for such laudable project.

He explained the organisers of the programme are committed towards ensuring that young people's capacity is developed to advance their agribusiness in Africa.

 

"The Africa Lead programme works to help realise...goals to reduced hunger and poverty by by building the capacity of champions, institutions, and stakeholders to develop and manage the structures needed for African agricultural transformation," he said.
